Review: Fanimation Brewmaster Ceiling Fans

Fanimation Ceiling Fans

It’s difficult to describe the feeling that a unique ceiling fan can bring to a room. Certain ceiling fans can change the whole character of an environment, so when I got my first look at the Fanimation Brewmaster, I was excited at the possibilities. Fanimation is known for its flawless execution and attention to detail when it replicates historic ceiling fans. The Brewmaster is a testament to Fanimation’s vigilant commitment to excellence.

In one word, the Fanimation Brewmaster is cool. With a belt driven Brewmaster spinning over your head, you feel like you could be drinking a scotch in any 1800s saloon. This type of fan was first produced in the late 1800s by Snediker & Carr, one of the premier ceiling fan manufacturers of their time. The original Brewmaster style fans were used to cool large public rooms, like restaurants and taverns.

Although, these 1800s belt driven fans were not known for their durability. Their leather belts often needed maintenance and produced distracting noises. Fanimation has eliminated this frustration by manufacturing neoprene belts that rarely if ever need to be serviced. Further, copper babbitt sleeves have been replaced with rock solid sealed ball bearings, and temperamental solid wood blades have been replaced with hardwood laminate blades.

The Fanimation Brewmaster comes in four distinct finishes: antique brass; antique copper; black or pewter. The Brewmaster can also adorn four different blade finishes: oak; walnut; cherry or rosewood. One of the Brewmaster’s big plusses is that one can drive two separate fans on one belt with one motor. This allows one to cool a larger area. The Brewmaster can be fitted with a large selection of Fanimation’s optional lighting components. When installed in the right environment it adds a chill old-world feel that not many other ceiling fans can match.

All in all, the Brewmaster is an excellent antique replica ceiling fan. Its only downside is that belt driven ceiling fans are not as energy efficient as direct drive systems. Brewmaster prices typically range between $400 and $700 depending upon selected options. CeilingFantasia.com gives the Fanimation Brewmaster the following rating:

Style: 5 of 5
Durability: 4 of 5
Customization: 4 of 5
Efficiency: 3 of 5
Airflow: 3 of 5
Quality: 5 of 5
Value: 4 of 5
